活動簡介：Professor Yearley 受邀將於2010年3月9-17日來台，將在陽明

                大學、成功大學以及台灣大學分別演講與座談，為了促使台灣學

                界對他的學術思路更熟悉，而舉辦此次讀書會，期盼未來能與

                University of Edinburgh深入交流。

Professor Yearley joined the University of Edinburgh in 2005 after having served as Head of Department in Sociology at the University of York since 1999, and also became a Professorial Senior Fellow to the Forum at this time.

Attracted to the intellectual excitement surrounding post-Kuhnian science studies, Steven left his natural science studies behind to explore the social place of science in modern society. In particular, he has investigated how scientific expertise is used and challenged within environmental disputes and in environmental policy-making.

Professor Yearley has authored six books, the most recent of which are Making Sense of Science: Understanding the Social Study of Science (Sage, 2005) and Cultures of Environmentalism: Empirical Studies in Environmental Sociology (Palgrave Macmillan, 2004). He also co-wrote the Sage Dictionary of Sociology which appeared in 2006. In addition, he has authored and co-authored more than 40 articles in peer-reviewed journals and more than 30 chapters in edited collections.
